devin and I were both a little sad when we got home from our trip and klaus walked straight into our room and laid down on his make-shift-ikea-pillows-and-blanket-bed. He typically won't lay down unless he's in the same room as us. If we move to a different room, he moves, too. He wanted nothing to do with us. :-(
Today, though, the klauser is back. Once again, he looks perpetually sad and pathetically cute. And once again, he paces from room to room and from the couch to the floor when devin goes to work. AND once again, he decided that devin should not go anywhere without him. Devin was in the driveway on his bike getting ready to head to the grocery store. Klaus and I were sitting outside and I made sure to hold klaus's collar while devin rode away because he's had more than one instance when he chased devin down the road. So devin was out of sight. And I let go of klaus as he was one step away from the back door. And he turned into a greyhound chasing the bunny around the track. He took off down the driveway and ran in the direction that devin went and I tore after him in my bare feet (not recommended in the city of Oakland). I'm screaming for klaus and I see devin a block away and am screaming for him to stop. Some lady on the street sees the calamity and starts whistling and yelling, "Hey! There's a dog chasing you! Stop!" I turn the corner and don't see klaus OR devin and it's a really busy street. I think (hope) that maybe klaus went to the park and devin kept riding and was never the wiser. Then I see devin way down at the end of the block riding his bike on the street. Still no klaus. Then devin pulls on to the sidewalk and there's the klauser right next to him. I stop running and klaus sees me and comes barreling toward me, super excited, as if he had just found and saved devin from leaving us forever. It was ridiculous. And klaus wasn't so cooperative as I held onto his collar for the 2 and 1/2 blocks walk back home because he had to keep looking back for devin. And my feet hurt. And I laughed the whole way home. And loved devin a lot when he got back from the grocery store and said, "I have to admit that it felt good and was really cute that klaus chased me down on my bike 2 blocks from our house." Yes, the klauser is back.
